Cochran County Fire Threatens 1400 Homes

The National Weather Service says fire dangers remain high across West Texas because of dry weather and high winds. A Red Flag warning is in effect for the area. A fire on Father’s Day threatened some 1400 homes in Cochran County. The blaze began Saturday afternoon, reportedly eventually covering about 1500 acres near Whiteface. Firemen from Cochran County, Whiteface Levelland and the Texas Forest Service were on the scene Sunday. Rehab units were being dispatched from Lubbock County yesterday afternoon. Other fires over the weekend charred houses in Lubbock, Levelland, and Floydada, where two homes were destroyed in a Saturday night fire.
