Worker Escapes Suffocation After Sinking Into Grain In Silo

A worker at a grain company in Hockley County narrowly escaped suffocation in a silo yesterday when he was trapped neck-deep in grain during stifling afternoon heat. It took rescuers nearly two hours to get him out and take him to an area hospital for observation. The middle-aged man had fallen into the grain inside the four-story silo at Anderson Grain Corporation between Ropesville and Wolfforth. Rescue units arrived just after 2 p.m. Because of the weight of the grain around him, rescuers could not simply pull him out but had to build a box around him and use buckets to scoop away the grain. The man was freed from the silo just before 4 p.m. No word yet on his identity.
