A 28-year-old man must spend the next 40 years in prison after pleading guilty yesterday to shooting at Lubbock police officers when they tried to serve a felony warrant on him last September. Police accused Jose Ortega of firing a shot near the head of Officer Gerardo Torres. Officers had tried to use a stun gun as Oretga resisted them. The officer shot Ortega in the shoulder to get him to drop his weapon. The warrant was being served on Oretega for another shooting eight days earlier in Hockley County. Ortega was already on parole for a 2001 burglary out of Terry County.
