Federal Agents’ Explosives Cause Fire In Motley County Field

A fire this week in a wheat field in Motley County was caused by explosives being set off by Lubbock and Abilene agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The fire Tuesday burned 150 acres before being doused by Motley County volunteer firemen. The ATF has taken responsibility for the blaze. An ATF agent said the land is leased by Texas Tech and the Department of Homeland Security for explosives research.
