Wildfire Rages In Dickens County, Red Flag Is Posted For The South Plains

A massive fire raged over the weekend in Dickens County extending along Highway 82 into King County. Officials said grass fires apparently were ignited by lightning strikes Friday night and combined to burn over 35,000 acres, threatening several homes in the Pitchfork Ranch.  Firefighting units from across the South Plains and Panhandle were called out to help battle the flames. A Red Flag warning against starting outdoors fires has been issued today for the South Plains and extreme southern Panhandle. A wind advisory is out for areas of the Caprock, where hundred-degree temperatures are forecast .
