The Guadalupe Neighborhood Association is holding a Cinco de Mayo celebration today at 4 p.m. at Guadalupe Park. The event will feature music by Abel Aleman’s Bad Boy Soundz, dancing by El Ballet Folklorico Axtlan and a historical discourse by Manuel Lechuga about Mexico’s 1862 battle against invading French forces. Because of Lubbock’s fire ban, the planned tripitas cookoff and contest has been canceled. And families are not allowed to bring their personal barbecue grills because of the fire hazard. Tamales will be sold as early as 11 a.m. from St. Joseph’s Church cafeteria.
