Police say an arrest has been made in California that may solve in a 22-year-old murder case in Lubbock. DNA evidence links 48-year-old Reynaldo Aguirre Rey of Madera California to the killing of 93-year-old Minnie Elkins. Lubbock police spokesman Jonathan Stewart said yesterday that prosecutors obtained a sealed indictment and an arrest warrant for Rey on Tuesday. Elkins was found dead in her home on June 29, 1989. Autopsy results showed she died of blunt-force trauma to the head and had been sexually assaulted. Police said Rey has a prior criminal record that facilitated the DNA match. The accused man is being arraigned in California before extradition proceedings begin to return him to Texas.
