A Texas Tech product who worked as a newspaper copy boy and a reporter for a TV station in Lubbock before going on to bigger things now has one of the biggest news jobs of all—as anchor and managing editor of “CBS Evening News.” Scott Pelley was announced by the network yesterday as the replacement for Katie Couric. The show will be renamed “The CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley.” Pelley took journalism courses at Texas Tech, was a copy boy the the A-J and from 1975 to 1978 was a reporter for KSEL-TV which later became KAMC. He went on to work for two Dallas-Fort Worth stations before joining CBS in 1989. Pelley most recently had been a reporter on CBS’ “60 Minutes” and had won a number of journalism honors including 14 national Emmy awards.
