Levelland’s Ethanol Plant Seeks Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection

Owners of the ethanol refinery in Hockley County have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection from creditors.  Under chapter 11 bankruptcy the company at Levelland is not going out of business but seeking time to reorganize its operation. The plant has not produced ethanol since January, when a slowdown prompted the owners to let go all but two dozen employees. Ethanol coordinator Tim Snyder said the issue isn’t ethanol itself but its production costs and risks. If the Hockley plant gets Chapter 11 protection, operations reportedly could resume by June.
