Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees Votes to close 2 Elementary Schools and 1 Middle School to Cut Costs

In a special meeting this morning, the Lubbock ISD School Board voted to close two elementary schools and one middle school to help cut costs.

In a unanimous vote, the school board voted to close Arnett Elementary and to consolidate those students into Wright Elementary.

By a 5 to 2 vote, the board voted to close Alderson Middle School and to have those students attend Dunbar Middle School.The dissenting votes were cast by Vernita Woods-Holmes and Mario Ybarra.

Finally, by a 4 to 3 vote, the board voted to close Tubbs Elementary School and to split those students into McWhorter and Wolffarth Elementary Schools. The dissenting votes were cast by Chris Comer, Vernita Woods-Holmes and Mario Ybarra.

LISD’s projected cost savings with the consolidation is $5.4 million dollars by the 2012-2013 school year.
