A nurse who helped evacuate more than 300 Vietnamese babies from South Vietnam before it fell to communist troops will be speaking next month at an event presented by Texas Tech’s Vietnam Center and Archive. LeAnn Thieman was involved in the evacuation mission called Operation Babylift in 1975 at the end of the war in Southeast Asia. She is scheduled to appear May 12th in the Allen Theater of the Student Union Building as part of a lecture series sponsored by a grant from the Helen Jones Foundation. Thieman is a frequent contributor to the “Chicken Soup” book series. Her speaking appearance is open to the public free of charge.
