Man That Fled Scene After Hitting Pedestrian in the Depot District Charged With Assault

A man who hit a college student in the Depot District with a vehicle, then drove away now faces an assault charge.

28-year-old Christopher Thomas reportedly hit 20-year-old Ashton Cerka at 19th Street and Crickets Avenue on January 28th and police have now filed another arrest warrant against him, this time for Aggravated Assault, causing serious bodily injury.

Thomas fled the scene after hitting Cerka, and later had a family member call police after returning home. He had reportedly been drinking at the time, and was travelling 53 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone.

Thomas has two previous DWIs, and has also been charged with Failure to Stop and Render Aid after hitting Cerka.
