The Lubbock trial of an alleged would-be bomb terrorist has been delayed from May until October. U.S. District Judge Sam Cummings this week granted an order for the delay agreed to by attorneys for 20-year-old Khalid Aldawsari as well as the prosecutors. Because the case is complex the attorneys sought to free it from the standard time constraints placed on federal cases in which the defendant pleads not guilty. In most cases, a trial must begin within 70 days from an indictment. Aldawsari was arrested in February and indicted shortly thereafter. He drew the attention of the FBI after ordering a shipment of chemicals that could have been used to make a bomb.
