Perry Apologizes For Saying Lawmaker Has Financial Interest In Leach Suit

Lubbock’s state representative Charles Perry apologizes for saying another state lawmaker must have had a financial interest in backing a suit against the state by fired Texas Tech football coach Mike Leach. Perry says his comments about Craig Eiland were a “freshman mistake.” Perry said on Lubbock’s First News on KFYO that Eiland, a lawmaker from Galveston, must have had a financial motive in introducing a resolution to help Leach’s legal cause. Perry said: “He may have a deep passionate desire that everybody gets their day in court, but at the end of the day, I’m sure it was financially motivated.” Later he backed off that remark, saying it was an “on the fly” comment and not intended to be mean-spirited.” Eiland said yesterday he has no financial interest in Leach’s legal affair–“He’s got good lawyers. He doesn’t need me.”
