Sign-Up Begins Monday For Ag Department’s ‘Creep’ Program

South Plains farmers and ranchers can begin signing up Monday for the Agriculture Department’s Conservation Reserve Program. Sign-up for the “creep” program as it is known will continue through April 15th. During the sign-up period, farmers and ranchers can offer eligible land at their county Farm Service Agency office. It’s a voluntary program that helps farmers, ranchers and other ag producers to use their environmentally-sensitive land for conservation benefits. Producers enrolling in CRP plant long-term cover crops in exchange for rental payments. The covers helped reduce water runoff and sedimentation, helping to improve groundwater supplies.
