Sustained Winds Raise Wildfire Risks For The Area

There’s more risk of grass fires across much of the South Plains today. A Red Flag Warning and a blowing dust advisory are in effect for much of the area including Bailey, Cottle, Gaines, Scurry, and Lubbock Counties. That means residents should avoid the use of open flames or any activities that may generate sparks. The National Weather Service expects sustained westerly winds of over 30 miles an hour, raising the potential for rapidly spreading wildfires. And blowing dust will cut visibility in some places to less than a mile.
