Former A-J Editor Eyes A Run For Lubbock City Council

A former editor of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal is planning to run next year for the District 6 seat on the Lubbock City Council. Randy Sanders says that he had not specifically declared for District 6 on campaign paperwork out of respect to the city’s current redistricting process. But Sanders told the newspaper he was interested only in the northwest Lubbock district. The formal filing period for the seat does not begin until next March. Sanders retired in January 2006 after some 36 years at the Avalanche-Journal. Councilman Jim Gilbreath, first elected in a 2003 special election, says he is not seeking re-election.
