Elevated Fire Danger for Monday, Red Flag Warning in Effect Tuesday

The National Weather Service cautions area residents that elevated fire weather conditions exist this afternoon across the South Plains due to moderate winds, warm temperatures, and low relative humidity.

Tuesday, a Red Flag Warning will be in effect from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. for much of the South Plains including Bailey, Cottle, Gaines, Scurry, and Lubbock Counties. Sustained westerly winds around 25 to 35 miles per hour with gusts between 45 and 55 miles per hour will cause the potential for rapidly spreading wildfires.

Residents should avoid the use of open flames or any activities that may generate sparks.
