CASA Not Accepting New Cases, Needs Volunteers

CASA of the South Plains provides court-appointed volunteers who serve as advocates for children in the foster care system.  Because of what CASA calls an epidemic of child abuse, there is a shortage of volunteers that makes it impossible for CASA to keep up with the caseload.

Currently, 360 children do not have a volunteer advocate, and CASA has asked Judge Kevin Hart to place a moratorium on new cases for CASA, which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates.

How bad is the child abuse epidemic?  In 2010, CASA of the South Plains served 1,069 abused and neglected children in six counties, and CASA needs 150 new volunteer advocates.
