Those in Yesterdays Plane Crash in Levelland Have Ties to LISD

The crash of a private plane near Levelland last night killed two and left two others critically injured.

Authorities said the single-engine Cessna 182 based in Lubbock crashed just before 9:30 last night near the Levelland airport.

The plane had left Lubbock and reportedly was doing touch-and-go landings at the Levelland airport when it went down just south of the town on U.S. 385.

All four people involved in the crash have been identified and have ties to Lubbock ISD.

The pilot, 62 year-old Gary Franklin, whose wife is a teacher at Coronado High School, perished in the crash.

The second person to die in the crash was 27 year-old Daniel Lopez.

His wife Christine,whose mother is a TA at Centennial Elementary, was was injured in the crash.

The fourth person involved in the crash was Cody Brockman, a PE teacher at Centennial Elementary.

Both survivors were airlifted to Covenant Medical Center.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board have dispatched investigators to the scene.
