High Heat, Dry Conditions Elevate Risk of Wildfires

Record high heat and dry conditions combine to elevate the danger of grass fires across the South Plains. The National Weather Service says critical fire weather conditions will develop over the entire area this afternoon, possibly leading to a Red Flag warning. Yesterday’s 85 degrees in Lubbock broke the record high for the date of 79, recorded in 1959.
