Man Charged With Hit-and-Run After Hitting Pedestrian in Depot District

A Lubbock motorist has been charged with failure to stop and render aid, after reportedly hitting a 20-year-old in the Depot District.

28-year-old Christopher Lee Thomas is charged with hitting Ashton Cerka at 19th Street and Crickets Avenue on January 28th, then fleeing the scene. Thomas asked his family to call local authorities a short time later.

He was arrested for driving while intoxicated twice last year, and authorities have not said if they believe that alcohol was a factor in this wreck.

They have confirmed that Thomas was speeding in his Chevrolet Blazer at the time of the incident.

Cerka remains in an area hospital, and Thomas is being held in the Lubbock County Jail on $10,000 bond. He faces up to 2 to 10 years in prison.
