Firefighters Battle Grass Blazes, One Started by Boys

Area firefighters were busy fighting grass fires yesterday. One was a grass fire in Clapp Park which firefighters said was started by one or more young boys. Firefighters got the call just after 1:30 PM.  One of the juvenile offenders was caught by an off-duty police officer.  About three hours later firefighters at Wolfforth battled a  wind-driven grass  fire north of 114th Street that damaged at least one structure. Smoke that limited visibility forced a temporary closure of part of Farm to Market Road 179.
