Bitter Cold Forces Some School Schedule Changes

It’s been bitterly cold across the South Plains this morning. A winter chill warning was in effect until 9 a.m. for Lubbock and the South Plains. North winds of 15 to 25 miles an hour were expected to drive wind chill readings to 10 below to 20 below zero. The winter weather forced a few school scheduling changes. Texas Tech delayed starting classes until 11 a.m. Tech classes before 11 a.m. were canceled. Some schools mainly north of Lubbock announced two-hour delays in starting classes, including Lazbuddie, Hart and Plainview Christian Academy. Lubbock ISD and Lubbock-Cooper were opening on their usual schedules. The Lubbock High vs. Coronado soccer games scheduled for today at Lowrey Field have been  cancelled. Yesterday’s boys and girls varsity basketball games between Coronado and Amarillo High were cancelled.
