FUMC to Present “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” as 37th Annual Musical This Month

First United Methodist Church of Lubbock will present another musical this month. The church will perform “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” at 7 p.m. Friday, February 18th, and at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, February 19th.

FUMC Music Director Christopher Betts discussed the musical, and elaborated on the history of the church’s involvement in musical theatre.

“The first musical was in 1975, when First Methodist Church was the first organization to present a stage production at the Civic Center at the theatre. They did the Sound of Music,” Betts said.

There are also a fairly large number of people included in the production.

Betts continued, saying “We have 75 people in the cast, which is actually fairly large, but we want to be as inclusive as possible. We probably have 75 people working behind the scenes, and they’re working very hard, especially on some of the props, including a car that is really going to get off the ground”.

John Packard is serving as stage director and choreographer, and Christopher Betts is directing the music for the show.

Proceeds from the performances will help complete renovations to FUMC music facilities. This is the 37th year that First United Methodist Church has performed a musical as a fundraiser.

Tickets range from $10 to $20, and are on sale at all Select-a-Seat locations, by phone at 770-2000, or online at www.selectaseat.com.
