Dangerously cold weather is about to hit the South Plains

The National Weather Service is looking for hazardous and even dangerously cold weather to move across the South Plains this afternoon and tomorrow. A winter storm is expected to trigger widespread precipitation across the area including a brief wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain due to turn to all snow between 9 p.m. and midnight. Temperatures are expected to plunge into the single digits and teens overnight. Because of strong winds, people should be prepared for what the national weather service says will be dangerous wind chills as low as 15 to 20 degrees below zero tonight through Wednesday.
