The American Cancer Society next Tuesday will open a unique patient-assistance facility in Lubbock known as a Hope Lodge, a place designed to providing free lodging for cancer victims. It will be the first Hope Lodge in Texas and one of only 30 in the nation. Texas Tech Chancellor Kent Hance, Mayor Tom Martin and other dignitaries will help cut the ribbon at a welcoming ceremony at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The American Cancer Society says the “home away from home” located at 3511 10th Street will offer nearly 12,000 nights of free lodging each year for cancer patients, many of whom have to travel more than 50 miles one-way to Lubbock for cancer treatment.
