Soldier From Ralls Killed In Iraq

A 24 year old South Plains Soldier has been killed in Iraq.

The Pentagon today said Sergeant Randell Olguin of Ralls was killed Sunday in Baghdad after an insurgent attack.

No word yet on when services will be held.


Lubbockite’s Artwork Selected In Congressional Art Competition

Congressman Randy Neugebauer announced today that Lubbock’s own Claire Valdez had her artwork selected in the Congressional Art Competition.

Claire’s artwork now represents Texas’ 19th district in the capitol.

Rep. Neugebauer said Valdez “has made Texas’ 19th District proud.”

Texas Tech Football Player Arrested For Possesion Of Marijuana

A Texas Tech Football player was arrested for possession of Marijuana Monday night.

Player Kellen Tillman was booked around 7:30 PM for the charge and was released less than an hour later.

77 Year Old Attacked By Escaped Pit Bulls

77 Year old William Cox, the victim of an attack by two pit bulls went into surgery Tuesday at Covenant hospital.

Cox was attacked and his Rat Terrier killed during last Sunday’s attack.

Under new state laws the owner of the pit bulls could face jail time.

Authorities say Cox was taking out his trash when a neighbor’s pit bulls escaped from their owner’s yard.

The pit bulls broke Cox’s arm, left him with multiple puncture wounds, and killed his pet.

If the owner of the pit bulls is prosecuted under the new law, they could face up to 10 years in prison.

The dogs are currently in the custody of Lubbock Animal Services.

Texas Tech Leisure Pool Groundbreaking Friday

Groundbreaking is scheduled for the new student leisure pool at Texas Tech on Friday at 10 AM, on the south side of the Student Recreational Center.

The pool will encompass 20 thousand square feet with 30 thousand square feet of deck area.

A 6000 square foot bathhouse, snack bar, administration and pump house will also be constructed.

Tech vs. A&M Game Time Announced

Kick off time for the Texas Tech University home football game against A&M University has been announced. The football game on October 13th will begin at 2:30 pm at the Jones AT&T stadium. The game will be broadcast on the ABC network making it the fourth television appearance this season for the red raiders.

LPD Searching for Suspect in CVS Robbery

The Lubbock Police Department needs help in identifying a suspect that robbed the CVS Pharmacy at 3402 Slide Road Sunday morning around 2:00 a.m. The suspect is described as a white male, about 25-30 years of age, about 6 feet tall and weighs about 170 lbs. He has short brown hair and is clean shaven. The suspect was last seen wearing a black and white baseball style cap, gray or green shot, a blue long sleeved tshirt and black and white running shoes. Anniversary of Reese Airforce Base

Five People Arrested at Flea Market

Five people were arrested yesterday at the National Flea Market on Clovis Highway. A tip led police to a booth believed to be selling stolen merchandise. Designer clothes, estimated to be worth $12,000 were found with the original tags still in place and now the suspects could face organized crime charges. The names of those taken into custody have not been released.

Police May Be Searching for Same Suspect in Two Different Robberies

Two robberies on Sunday morning may have police looking for the same suspect in both cases. Around 1:30 a man with a knife demanded money from an employee at the 7-11 in the 3800 block of 34th Street. The robber did not get away with any money.Then around 2 a.m. the CVS store in the 3400 block of Slide Road was robbed by a man with a knife. The suspect fled the store with an unknown amount of cash. Both suspects are described as being in their mid 20’s, weighing between 170 and 190 pounds, wearing black caps and a dark, possibly blue, shirt.
