New Fires Break Out In Crosby, Kent Counties

Just as the huge wildfire in Garza County is put out, new flames erupt in adjoining Crosby County and around Clairemont in Kent County.  Authorities said the new fire last night in Crosby threatened one home. But the wildfire in Kent County forced the evacuation of residents of 30 to 40 homes at Clairemont.  State authorities said the evacuees were being sent to Jayton.  The last remnants of Garza County’s fire were extinguished during the early morning hours yesterday. The Texas Forest Service thinks someone intentionally set the fire, which ranged over 50,000 acres.  The forest service along with the Garza County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Rangers are investigating.
