South Plains faces high winds with wildfire risks

Lubbock and surrounding South Plains counties are in for stiff winds and the risk of grass wildfires today. The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook saying the area should expect strong winds along with an elevated grassland fire danger today and at times tonight. Sustained winds from 25 to 35 miles an hour, with gusts to around 50 miles an hour, are expected. The weather service says blowing dust may cut visibility to below a mile at times.
