Stimulus fund help is given to 807 area residents in 2010

Federal authorities say  as many as 807 area residents received assistance this year from the City of Lubbock’s Community Development Department. The city today is being recognized by the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs  for using all of its federal stimulus Community Services Block Grant funds to help low income individuals make a transition toward self-sufficiency. The federal government  contracts the city’s Community Development Department to administer the block grant program in Lubbock County. The city received over 626 thousand dollars last year from the Department through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act , commonly referred to as the economic stimulus package. That act featured new guidelines allowing the state to reach larger numbers of low income people.
