Lubbock Volunteers Prepare For Haiti Trip

A Lubbock surgeon, a Texas Tech football player  and a team of volunteers will be leaving for Haiti soon.

Twelve volunteers from Lubbock will spend 7 days in Haiti, a trip which had to be postponed because of unrest in that country.  The trip is a project of Operation HOPE, a Lubbock non-profit started by Dr. John Thomas.

“We’re going to celebrate Christmas — delayed Christmas over there — with two orphanages, about 450 kids.,” Thomas told KFYO.  ” And we’re going to do a small clinic, and  do some education, teaching people how to avoid cholera, what cholera is, because there’s a great vacuum of knowledge in that country.”

Among the volunteers going to Haiti is Tech running back Baron Batch.
