Texas’ U.S. Senators say FCC bureaucrats want control of the Internet

Kay Bailey Hutchison calls it a power-grab. John Cornyn warns that it could thwart economic recovery and American innovation. The two Texas U.S. senators are joined by a number of other Republicans in Congress who are challenging new Federal Communications Commission rules affecting the web. Hutchison yesterday called the FCC’s actions an unprecedented bid to control the Internet. She says the FCC is trying to exercise excessive government regulation of the Internet without Congressional authority.   Hutchison, Cornyn and other Republicans tried last week to pass an amendment to bar the FCC from using its funds to carry out its new regulation attempt. Senate Democratic Leader Henry Reid blocked a Senate vote on the amendment.  Hutchison says now she’ll introduce a resolution of disapproval to try to halt implementation of the new rules.
