Woman says house filled with smoke when 911 brought no help

A Lubbock woman is angry and speaking out because she says police failed to respond to 9-eleven calls when her two-year-old son accidentally locked her outside her West Lubbock apartment. Her children were inside.  Malquisha Luke told KAMC-28 that after more than an hour  her apartment filled with smoke and alarms began going off.  She said she then broke a window with a hammer to get her children out of the apartment. Luke said she called for help a third time and was told, quote: “We contacted your maintenance man.” Lubbock police said the 9-eleven dispatcher did not sense from the initial calls that there was any immediate threat to anyone’s safety or life.  Lt. Neal Barron said police get so many 9-eleven calls that they cannot and do not respond to them all.
