National Science Foundation Awards $1.45 Million to Tech STEM Summer Camp Program

Texas Tech researchers have received a hefty grant for science and math outreach.

The group of researchers was recently awarded with a $1.45 million grant to encourage 60 students to pursue degrees in math and biology. Beginning in the summer of 2011, 12 Texas Tech freshmen, 12 sophomores, and 6 high school students will spend three weeks at a summer research camp doing math and biology research with pairs of Texas Tech faculty.

The students will continue working with their research mentor through the next year, and each student will receive a $3000 dollar stipend during the academic year and a $1200 dollar stipend for the camp. In recent years, the National Science Foundation has approved six proposals in these areas for around $12.87 million dollars in total funding.
