One In Four Lubbock Kids Are “Food Insecure”

How widespread is hunger among kids in Lubbock?  Consider these numbers from David Weaver, the CEO of the South Plains Food Bank.

“In Lubbock, 1 in 4 of our kids are considered food insecure,” says Weaver.  “Nearly all the schools in Lubbock qualify for the free and reduced lunch program.  You also find these great teachers who maybe are stocking snacks in their drawer…just because these kids come to school and they’re hungry.”

The U-Can Share food drive  takes place December 6-11.
