DPS to fly flags at half-staff for trooper killed in wreck near Post

Flags at DPS offices across Texas will be flying at half-staff today for a state trooper who was killed Monday night when he crashed off an area highway while rushing to the scene of another accident. DPS officials have been trying to determine what caused the car of trooper Jonathan McDonald to hit a concrete culvert on U.S. Highway 84 near Post and plunge into a ditch. The car burst into flames. McDonald was killed on impact. A Garza County sheriff’s deputy who was headed to the same accident came upon the crash site and called for help.
