Will Three Studies End Homelessness?

At Monday’s city council meeting, the council scaled back to one year the timetable for a committee on homelessness, a disappointment for councilman Todd Klein, the leading advocate for a homeless committee.  On Lubbock’s First News on KFYO, an earlier homeless study was a topic of discussion.

“Councilman, isn’t there already… a homeless advisory board or committee  with the city of Lubbock?” asked host Chad Hasty.

“No, there’s not,” Klein responded.

Actually, a subcommittee, back in 2005,  studied the same issue and presented a 10-year plan to end homelessness.  Add to that a study by the Salvation Army scheduled for early next year, and that makes three studies on the homeless, despite the following admission by Klein.

“We’re really never going to eradicate homelessness, just like poverty is not going to be eradicated.  It’s a question of how you address it.”
