Veterans Day 2010: Events around town, poppies for sale

Today is Veterans Day and a number of events are going on around Lubbock to honor the nation’s veterans. At 11 this morning Silent Wings Museum is having a ceremony with a proclamation to be read by Mayor Tom Martin and music to be performed by Wester Elementary School students. The Aviation Art of Mark McCall will be on display. A reception will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with World War II-era music. The Silent Wings Musem is located at 6202 on North I-27 near the Lubbock Preston Smith International Air Port. Also the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be selling flowers at supermarkets around town to benefit the VFW Post’s veterans relief fund. Poppies will be sold today through Saturday at United and Market Street stores at 50th Street and Indiana Avenue, 82nd and Boston, 98th and Quaker Avenue and 82nd Street and Frankford Avenue.
