In-law says drunk driver charged with murder deserves punishment

A sister-in-law of a Lubbock driver charged with murder in a fatal wreck on I-27 says 40-year-old Kellie Ann Lewis has an addiction problem but deserves to be punished. Karen Gilliland told KAMC-28 that Lewis has been in and out of jail and needs help, but, quote: “ She deserves what is coming to her.” Lewis was driving on I-27 Saturday when her vehicle crossed lanes and a median and collided with another vehicle driven by Lubbock County jail detention officer Tommy Lamkin.  Lewis  had an blood alcohol content of point two-eighty-seven—three times the legal limit—and had traces of marijuana in her system.  Lewis, who suffered serious injuries in the accident, was arraigned and arrested at University Medical Center this week. Because her victim worked at the Lubbock County jail, Lewis is being held in the Hale County jail in lieu of a 250,000 bond.  She’s been convicted of DWI three times since 1999. Lewis is reported to be only the second accused drunk driver in Lubbock history to be charged with murder.
