Cole family member urges pressure on city to explain brother’s rape case

The brother of a man wrongly imprisoned for a rape in Lubbock called on people attending a family-organized community meeting last night to “join us in putting pressure on the city” to divulge what went wrong with the investigation and to explain what is being done to prevent a similar injustice in the future. Cory Session was among family members and others at a meeting held concerning the rape conviction of Timothy Cole, who died behind bars. City Councilman Victor Hernandez was the only city official to appear at the event. Cole’s brother Session said the issue was not about money. But the City of Lubbock has declined to issue an official apology sought by the family, possibly fearing that admitting wrongdoing would be used in a lawsuit against the city.
