Canadian River authority eyes allocations for consumers of Lake Meredith water

Water levels at Lake Meredith in the northern Panhandle continue to fall. Yesterday the lake hit a new record low of 39.90 feet, according to the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority. That’s 15 feet below levels of three years ago. Members of the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority board were to meet this morning in Plainview to discuss how much water will be going out to 11 cities which use Lake Meredith as their main source of drinking water. On the board’s agenda was “possible actions setting 2011 allocations.” Lubbock is one of the consumers of Lake Meredith water. The lake for decades has supplied most of the water used in Lubbock.
