Swisher deputies arrest man after balloonists report shots fired at them

Two balloonists participating in the America’s Challenge distance race out of Albuquerque say they were shot at by a rifleman on the ground northwest of Plainview. Troy Bradley said he and his partner had been flying low because of wind conditions Saturday evening when four to six shots were fired at them. Swisher County sheriff’s deputies questioned three men but could not confirm immediately whether the shots were aimed at the balloonists. They did arrest a Crowell man, Joe Moya, who said he was shooting at prairie dogs. Pending further investigation, Moya has been charged with discharging a firearm across a public road.  The balloonists had left Albuquerque Friday.
