Midland police nab eight people in counterfeit check scheme

Midland police have arrested eight people over the past few days in connection with a check counterfeiting scheme that ripped off 20 businesses in Midland, Lubbock and Odessa.  The Odessa American quoted Midland Police Sgt. Alfred Grimaldo as saying an investigation completed in late August turned up about 30 checks using a Midland nursing home’s checking account. Grimaldo said the losses totaled 25,300 dollars. One counterfeit payroll check was from “Phoenix Home Care Services” in Lubbock, made payable to one of the defendants. The eight arrests followed a federal indictment issued on August 25^th.
