Jury rejects insanity plea in Lubbock murder case

A Lubbock man is sentenced to 97 years in prison after being convicted of murdering his 95-year-old grandfather. A jury yesterday rejected his plea of not guilty by reasons of insanity. Forty-year-old John Lockard had taken  the stand to admit that he killed his grandfather, R.K. Flippin in March of 2008. He told police he shot Flippin in the back of the head with a shotgun as he sat in a wheelchair because it was “the will of god.” The jury deliberated less than two hours before rendering its guilty verdict.
