Lubbock County Commissioners Approve Raise for Themselves and County Employees

At Monday’s Lubbock County Commissioner’s Court meeting, the commissioners approved pay raises for elected officials and county employees 4 to 1.

Lubbock County Judge Tom Head, the only member to vote against the raises, expressed his disapproval for the measure which will also raise the salary of members of the commissioner’s court.

Head said “I think it is bad timing. We’re going to do everything we can for the employees but, I’ve stated for twelve years that the elected officials don’t need a raise.”

Commissioners received sizeable opposition from the public over the raises. The court is allowed to set their own pay rate, which has now increased by 3.1%, resulting in around 1,500 dollars per year for the commissioners.

Judge Head said that he feels the area is in greater need of more patrolling officers.
