Myers has things to attend to before leaving as Tech’s AD

Texas Tech has set no timetable for replacing Athletic Director Gerald Myers, who’s announced he’s retiring after having been at the university in one capacity or another for the past 55 years. There is time for a search. Myers is set to remain in the job until next May31. He’s been AD for 14 years. The 74-year-old former basketball coach of the Red Raiders is saying there are a number of things he’d like to oversee before hanging it up.  Among them: Seeing his new football coach Tommy Tuberville through the coming season and remaining involved in the Big 12 Conference’s changeup in membership. Myers hasn’t mentioned it but the next nine months also are likely to bring a resolution of a breach of contract lawsuit brought former Tech football coach Mike Leach. The unversity fired Leach, contending that he had mistreated a player who had suffered a concussion. The firing of the popular and highly successful Leach brought Myers a lot of flak.
