Taylor Potts gets the nod as Tech’s starting quarterback

Texas Tech head football coach Tommy Tuberville has ended some suspense over who would win the starting quarterback assignment for the Red Raiders’ opening season game. Perhaps no big surprise: Taylor Potts, who started 10 games last season, gets the nod. Tuberville said yesterday that training camp competition between Potts and fellow senior Stephen Sheffield had been outstanding but, quote “at the end of the day we can have only one starter.” Tuberville said Potts had done a tremendous job and had gotten better each day of training camp. So Potts will be the signal-caller when the Raiders open their season at home against SMU on September 5th, a Sunday afternoon game starting at 2:30 p.m.
