Neugebauer Would Change 14th Amendment

The 14th Amendment says in part that anyone born in the U.S. is a citizen of the United States, and since some children of illegal aliens are born in the U.S., the 14th Amendment has become part of the debate about illegal immigration.

In an interview on KFYO, Congressman Randy Neugebauer was asked if he supports an effort by some in Congress to change the 14th Amendment to delete what some consider to be a loophole.

“There’s some question about if we can do it legislatively or if we have to do it constitutionally,” Neugebauer said.  “I think the faster way to do it is to see if we can do it legislatively.”

Neugebauer pointed out that it’s more difficult to pass or change a constitutional amendment compared with another type of  law, but he said he would vote for a constitutional amendment if it came up for a vote.
