City of Lubbock and Lubbock County to Get Hurricane Alex Reimbursement, but Citizens Will Not

The City of Lubbock and Lubbock County will receive reimbursement from FEMA for damage and costs associated with the rains from Hurricane Alex.

Governor Perry notified both groups that they have been added to the federal disaster declaration, allowing the Federal Emergency Management Agency to reimburse the City and County for up to 75 percent of response costs for the flooding, and 75 percent of damages to government infrastructure including buildings and roads.

Estimated repair costs for the City and County were over 5.4 million dollars. Lubbock citizens who suffered damages from the rains will not receive any monetary help from FEMA, because they did not reach the required level of damage for reimbursement.

Lubbock County officials expect to apply for a state program that could help citizens who suffered damage during the rains from Hurricane Alex.
